I wish to take a moment of your time to say thank you to the officers of our Post and to our volunteers.  To the members, I thank you for the trust you have given to our team of officers for both this year and the following year.  Being elected again as your Commander is both an honor and privilege.  We will work to make this the best Post in the District and hopefully the State of California.  Last year the Post was awarded the honors of All American by National Hq and All State by the Dept of California.  We should again qualify this year.  These honors are earned and difficult to obtain. 

There is a lot of work done for the success of a VFW Post, most of which is unseen and unknown to most.  For a Post to be successful requires the continued dedication of the officers and the volunteers who should always work as a team, and if there is an Auxiliary they too.  NONE of the Post officers, elected or appointed, are paid for the work we do (since I was first elected Quartermaster in 2023 and which continues to this day).  The work of a Post is mostly unknown to the members.  Those that use the Canteen see only a portion of what is done for success (and this must be a profitable endeavor if the Post is to survive; think property taxes, licenses, utilities, maintenance and repair, equipment, etc.).  The administrative tasks are many, frequent, and exacting.  Volunteers perform many required tasks, some of which include facility maintenance, repair, recycling, kitchen management, cleaning, webmaster, advertising, etc., and can be Post or Auxiliary members. Their work too is mostly unseen and under appreciated.  The business team is the Canteen Manager and the Bartenders whose work is also very much appreciated.   Every person must have the knowledge to do the job for which elected or appointed and should have the motivation to do the best he/she/other can.  Election of officers should never be a personality contest.

Due to a Post member's reporting to the City of SDs's now imposed inspection and permitting process for our facility repair, it is now necessary to continue our closing for food, entertainment, and rentals for the month of April.   As of today, we are awaiting the go-aheld from the City for the work to continue.  Additionally, the City is now requiring modifications that were previously unplanned and unfunded.  The inspection process will slow construction.  Originally when we closed on 16 Feb, the repair was to take two to three weeks and the permitting process was not planned for our repairs.    

Should we be allowed to open prior to the end of the month, the Canteen only will be operational.  This early announcement is in consideration of our entertainers and food specialists so they may plan for the entire month.  The House Committee meeting for the month of April is cancelled as well as Heroes Pantry2 that will no longer be held at our location.  

We expect to fully open on 1 May.  Information will be provided to all when known.  

The official spokespersons for this project are myself and in my absence, Sr Vice Commander Steve Esquilin.  Please do not come to the facility and expect to see what we are doing.  Only authorized persons will be allowed to enter. 

Be patient.  One day we will open again and your will ALL be pleasantly surprised.  Thank you all and especially to the volunteers that assisted with our project.
